Aciretin Treatment for Psoriasis
Psoriasis is a non-contagious, long term inflammatory skin disease. It is a chronic condition which can spread across the whole body.
The exact cause of psoriasis is not yet known, but outbreaks of psoriasis are linked to skin injury, infections, emotional stress, and may be passed down in families.
Symptoms of psoriasis include red, scaly, itchy skin. It is caused by skin cells which grow too quickly, resulting in thick patches of red, white, or silvery skin.
The patches can range from large to small, and usually appear on the knees, elbos, hands, feet, scalp, or lower back. Most common in adults, psoriasis can affect teens and children too.
There are five main types of psoriasis, each one has slightly different physical symptoms. One treatment option for psoriasis is Aciretin, a form of Vitamin A.
Aciretin is best used to treat severe psoriasis which has not responded to any other treatment.
The way that Aciretin works is not yet known.
When you are taking Aciretin, you should avoid otherVitamin A containing medications or ointments, and should avoid too much exposure to UV light.
Often, psoriasis worsens when you start taking Aciretin, but improves after a little while. If you stop taking Aciretin, your symptoms will return.
Aciretin is not meant to be used with other psoriasis treatments. You will need a doctor's prescription to obtain this medication.
If you have severe psoriasis which has not responded well to other treatments, ask your doctor if Aciretin may be right for you.
