The Basics of Laser Resurfacing

Laser resurfacing (also referred to as a "laser peel") involves the use of a carbon dioxide (CO2) laser which is used to remove damaged or wrinkled skin, layer by layer.

Most commonly, this procedure is used to diminish the appearance of fine lines around the mouth and eyes. It is also effective at treating facial scars and areas of hyperpigmentation.

Laser skin resurfacing can be performed on the whole face or just in specific regions. Most of the time, laser resurfacing is completed at the same time as another cosmetic operation.

Although it is a still a newer procedure, laser resurfacing seems to provide advantages over other resurfacing methods. Laser resurfacing seems to allow for greater precision, less bleeding, and less post-procedure discomfort compared to other skin resurfacing methods like dermabrasion or chemical peel.
