Thermage tightens collagen, improves skin
Thermage, termed the "non surgical face lift" is a non-invasive, non-surgical procedure that improves skin's appearance by tightening existing collagen and building new collagen.
Thermage uses radiofrequency energy to tighten the skin and stimulate new collagen growth. This approach results in firmer skin, with fewer sags or wrinkles. The procedure involves placement of the Thermage treatment tip onto pre-defined areas of the skin. The treatment tips delivers cooling and radiofrequency waves to stimulate the collagen under the skin.
The Thermage procedure works best for people who are on the verge of needing a face-lift, but who may want to delay it for a few more years.
It works best for people who have just noticed a bit of looseness in their skin, or a bit of sagging in their skin.
People with more advanced wrinkles or looser skin may require multiple Thermage treatments to see effects. Some people with advanced skin aging will not benefit from Thermage treatments.
Thermage has been around since about 2000. In 2002, the FDA approved thermage for non-invasive treatment of wrinkles around the eyes. People who sought the treatment early continue to show positive effects; suggesting that Thermage can offer longer-term benefits than other non-invasive procedures.
Treatment sessions take about 40-45 minutes. Topical anesthetic is applied to decrease discomfort. Side effects may include skin redness and tenderness, which improves within a few days. In fact, the more redness and tenderness you have, the more likely you are to have dramatically positive results from Thermage.
As far as costs for Thermage, these vary. Charges may be based on size of area treated, number of areas treated, and market conditions. Generally, a full face Thermage treatment will cost between $2000-$5500. A partial face treatment (on just the forehead or neck or cheeks, for instance) will cost somewhere between $1000-$3000.
Thermage is currently being studied for its effectiveness on the breasts, upper arms, thighs, buttocks, stretch marks, and in the treatment of severe cystic acne.
